Team Shan

Team Shan was named after Shanna (Shan) Larsen
who was only 24 when she lost her life to breast cancer.
Team Shan
was initiated by four of Shanna’s friends participating in
breast cancer awareness fundraising events.  Her friends continue to raise awareness of breast cancer in young women.

Annual events are now held in Shan's memory including including
the Knock Cancer Out of the Park/Shanna Larsen Memorial (www.kcootp.com)
ball tournament in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, Canada
and Fore for Shan golf tournament in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada.

Team Shan Breast Cancer Awareness For Young Women (Team Shan)
is an incoportated not-for-profit organization and registered chairty.

Team Shan's mission is to raise awareness that
breast cancer is not just a disease of older women.

Team Shan's purpose is to educate young women, health care professionals
and the public about early detection, risk reduction and prevention of breast cancer.

Team Shan's vision is early detection of breast cancer and positive outcomes
for young women diagnosed with the disease.

Awareness and education activities include the development and dissemination
of resource materials; facilitation of breast cancer awareness campaigns for young women; presentations in high schools, college and university campuses, and profesional conferences; publications and support of health promotion research.

Team Shan board members, professional advisors and broader network of supporters
provide medical, public health, health promotion, epidemiological research,
media and marketing expertise, personal breast cancer experience
and event facilitation skills to Team Shan's activities.
